本仪器的功耗很低，每一个新装电池可累计工作50小时左右。当电池能量下降到10%时，仪器已经不能正常工作，这时喇叭会发出断续的嗒嗒声，提示我们必须更换新电池。

使用时，安检人员用手握住手柄，用拇指按一下启动按键，然后松开，仪器的信号灯便开始闪烁，喇叭同时发出极轻微的蜂鸣声，表示仪器进入工作状态。工作人员手持开机后的仪器在被检人（或物体）表面来回扫描，如果有金属物体，仪器就会发出声音。检查工作完毕之后，应该按下停机按键，以免浪费电池的电量。
